We would really love it if you could make a commitment to run once a week in the off season. It will help you get ready for track and most importantly the upcoming cross country season. Sunday Rundays are still going strong and we would like you to take on the responsibility of meeting each other at the gazebo at 4:00pm to go on a 35-40 minute run. We know its cold, but you warm up quickly after you start running!
Also - a few girls have mentioned that they have memberships to Urban Active and/or Five Seasons. If you are going to run inside, grab a teammate and/or a coach and make it more fun!
Remember, the feeling you get from a good run is far better than the feeling you get from sitting around wishing you were running.
Those of you that turned in uniforms/warm-ups late or not at all will be receiving fine notifications soon. Please make sure to pay promptly. Thank you!

Thank you! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for an absolutely amazing season! We are so lucky to coach the best group of young women and have the opportunity to watch them reach their goals every season. We are also very lucky to have such a wonderfully supportive group of parents that make everything possible!
Special thank you to Barb and Bob Piccirilli, Kari Eckel, Sue O'Brien, Kathy Mohney, Gib Stranahan, and Stephanie Speisz! You all devoted so much time to the girls this year and made potlucks, picnics, and the wonderful Mohican camp-out possible! Also a big thank you to all the picnic parents and tent parents that made sure everything was set up for the runners...you made each meet feel like a home away from home!
At the Fall Sports Awards Banquet Mr. Spellman gave special recognition to Barb Piccirilli and our entire parents support group for hosting the WSC Preview and WSC Championship Meet. As coaches we cannot thank you enough for all the effort that goes into running those two meets. From t-shirts sales to course spotters you all play such an important role in those two meets being such a success! The other coaches in our conference are so impressed every year and we have you to thank! We are also so lucky to have parents that are willing to host a meet because we get to have a home course, which gives us a big advantage on race day ; )
Lastly, thank you to all the parents who submitted pictures for the end of the season slideshow. You had some great shots and we really appreciate you sharing them with us! If you turned in a DVD we still have them and can get them back to you at anytime. Just shoot us an email. Everyone that gave us hard copies of pictures should have already gotten those back. Let us know if that is not the case.
Thank you again for the most rewarding season of Bay Girls CC yet! We are so impressed with every single one of our runners and can't wait to see what they can do next year!
Senior parents: We miss you already! Please come back and visit us! It won't be the same without you!
CC Runners: Make sure you thank your parents for everything they've done for you this year! You are lucky to have such a great support system! Something to be thankful for on Turkey Day!
Best,
Anne & Danielle

5th at REGIONALS
Congratulations on a great race today ladies! Of course we were one place short of one our goals which was making it to the state meet as a team, but remember we did meet several other goals that we set for ourselves this season!
- We had three runners under 20:00 minutes, which is amazing!
- We moved up 7 places from last years finish
- Our average time was 20:14, which is a season best for the team! (by 10 seconds!)
Congratulations to Hallie Bechtel and Maddie Britton for not only running lifetime best times but for breaking the huge 20:00 minute barrier for the first time. We can't wait to see what you can do next year!
We are so proud of what you accomplished today as a team. It isn't fun to be the first team not going to the next stage but we learn something from every experience and we will use what we learned today to motivate us all next season!
Please know that we could not be more proud of you and you ran VERY well against the toughest competition in any region in the entire state. Our region was extremely fast this year (seriously go to Ohio Mile Split and compare) and you ran strong and tough among some of the best athletes in the state. Hold your heads high and be proud of what you've accomplished!
Get pumped to cheer on the boys team next Saturday at Scioto Downs!

Congratulations on your 1st Place finish at the Fostoria Booster Invitational! Quite an improvement over last years 5th place performance! We could not be happier with the way you ran and stayed determined to get in front of people....its all about places places places! We gave you a goal and you far exceeded our expectations by outscoring two very talented teams that were in front of you at the Tiffin Carnival. Congratulations, you should be very happy with your performance and pumped up for WSC Conference Championships this weekend!

Maureen Piccirilli, 22:07 (41st Place)
Trophy Sleepover Winner: Hallie Bechtel (we love the pics!)
Hallie ran a lifetime PR of 20:38 and was a critical part of our 1st place finish. She had tough competition surrounding her the entire race and she stayed determined and most importantly maintained her position! We are so proud of you Hallie, keep up the hard work and your time will keep dropping! You are one of the most consistent runners on the entire team, which is an amazing accomplishment as a freshman! Congrats on a wonderful performance!

Fostoria Booster Invitational
This Saturday we will be headed west (2 hours to be exact) to the Fostoria Booster Invitational. We will be running in the Red Division race all together as a team... there isn't a separate open race. This is a great opportunity to close the gap between you and the runner in front of you. Remember this is a sport based on places so work together and get in front of people!

2nd at Gilmour Invitational
Congratulations to the varsity team on their 2nd Place finish and to the open team on their 3rd place finish at Hogwarts! You girls really rose to the challenge after a hard week of practice and we couldn't be happier with the results! Overall we had 19 season PR's and 14 LIFETIME PR's... which is amazing given that you are still working through the hardest part of the training program. Can't wait to see what happens once you have a little rest ; )
Top 7 Finishers:
Hanna Sterle (19:30)
Alyse Arko (20:10 - LIFETIME PR)
Megan Mohney (20:24 - LIFETIME PR)
Hallie Bechtel (20:44 - LIFETIME PR)
Maureen Piccirilli (21:11 - LIFETIME PR)
Andrea Hanna (21:17 - LIFETIME PR)
Maggie Harter (21:24 - Season PR)
Trophy Sleepover Winner: Maureen Piccirilli
Maureen ran a lifetime PR of 21:11….her goal was to break 22:00 and she crushed that goal! We are sure that the next goal of breaking 21:00 is totally attainable before the end of the season. Keep up the hard work Maureen, you lead by example and all your dedication is paying off! Congrats! (but take it easy on us….all these great runs make us tear up….what will the other coaches think ?!?)
Golden Spike Winners:
Eliz Fulop: Eliz has worked hard all season and finally broke that 23:00 mark… she didn’t just break it, she smoked it by running a 22:28! What a great lifetime PR! Eliz finished 10th on our team this week, which is fantastic! You truly do give it your all Eliz, in practice and in races, and we admire your motivation and dedication! Congrats! We think your next goal should be breaking 22:00- you can do it!
Izzy Zitiello: Izzy ran her lifetime PR on Friday and crushed her previous time by well over a minute! Izzy finished 9th for our team and did such a wonderful job. You definitely showed us what you’re capable of Izzy, and we know that there is more where that came from! We can’t wait to see how fast you run at Fostoria- maybe top 7?
REMINDERS:
Be sure to check the results for Gilmour on the right, you will see your mile splits and total time broken down. Also the season results grid has times from each meet this season as well as times from 2008 and 2009 if you would like to compare!

Gilmour (Hogwarts) Invitational
This Friday we head to Gilmour for one of the best meets of the season! Last year there was a monsoon and people ran barefoot through the mud for 3.1 miles...but this year the weather report is looking good for some lifetime best performances! Get excited to run and of course see all your classmates at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry ; )
Varsity - 5:00pm
Open - 6:30pm
***Please remember that because of the early timing of the first race, we have to leave BHS at 2:45pm. Because we have to leave before the end of school, the only people excused from class and able to ride the bus are those people that are running! We love to have everyone at all the meets, but unfortunately in the case we can't get you out of class.***
REMINDERS:
Bonfire at Sanson's on Friday after the meet --- thanks Sanson's!
Captain's Practice on Saturday --- meet at Samm's at 9:00AM

2nd Place at Cloverleaf!
Congratulations on a 2nd Place finish at Cloverleaf! As a team you moved up 3 places from last year and as individuals you had a chance to run against the Division II State Champion from last year! The only team that beat you was CVCA and they placed third at the State Meet last year.... so you are keeping good company! Keep up the hard work this week at practice and get ready to head to Gilmour (Hogwarts) on Friday afternoon. Details regarding Gilmour will be posted soon. Also be sure to check the Season Results Grid to see how you are progressing from week to week. We are very proud of all the hard work you put in, and can't wait to see how fast you can run in the upcoming weeks (with a little rest!). Get pumped!
Congratulations to Emma Tomczak, Megan Mohney, Valentina Rojas, and Andrea Hanna who all ran season PR's on a tough Cloverleaf course! Way to go ladies!
Top 9 Finishers (Varsity at Gilmour)

Samm Sanson, 24th Place in Open (22:55)
Trophy Sleepover Winner: Megan Mohney
Megan ran a season PR of 21:08 and looked SO STRONG the entire race. She worked well with her teammates and was a critical piece of our 2nd place finish! Megan we are so proud of how you ran on Saturday, it is amazing to see all of your hard work pay off. We are also proud of the leader in you! You lead by example and set the tone for your teammates. Not sure what we are going to do without you next year, so we'll just cherish every practice and meet we have left! Congratulations on a great race and a great season so far Megan!
Golden Spike Winner: Maureen Piccirilli
Maureen's goal for the day was to run fast enough to make it unto varsity for Gilmour...and that's exactly what she did! Not only did she run the 6th fastest time for our team, she also came dangerously close to her season PR (which she ran at Tiffin), this is a big deal because the Cloverleaf course is significantly slower than Tiffin so the fact that she almost ran the same time is amazing! Mreen we are so proud of your ability to set goals and constantly work to achieve them through not only your dedication, but your positive attitude! Keep it up and get ready to run faster than the Golden Snitch at Gilmour!

Inspiration Quote of the Week (inspired by Shannon O'Brien):
You were born to run. Maybe not that fast, maybe not that far, maybe not as efficiently as others. But to get up and move, to fire up that entire energy-producing, oxygen-delivering, bone-strengthening process we call running. ~Florence Griffith-Joyner

Fast times at the Carnival!
WOW LADIES! What a great meet filled with 7 season and 19 lifetime PR's. You should all be proud of what you accomplished at the Tiffin Carnival, be sure to check out your splits on the team results to the right.
Under a beautiful blue sky with perfect temperatures we had a perfect day to run fast at the carnival...and that's exactly what you did! The varsity team placed 6th (by one point!) in a competitive race with 28 other teams, while the jv team WON the open race (24 teams total)! We are very excited about your times individually but also how you ran as a team. You ran in packs and did a great job pacing each mile and working our "pick-up" spots throughout the course. We are so proud of every single one of you, keep up the hard work and get ready for an even faster course at Galion!

Camille Eckel - SHE DID IT! Camille ran her lifetime PR at Tiffin with a time of 27:24. Not only did she break 28 minutes, but she broke it by quite a bit! Camille smiles throughout all of her races and she should definitely have a huge smile on her face after the race she had at Tiffin. Congrats Camille!

It's Officially XC Season!
We are so proud of the work you all put in at Mohican, and very happy with the running of our course and the Classic @ Mastick yesterday! Wow, all the hard work you've put in this summer has definitely paid off and we can't wait to see you progress every week.
Since the season has officially started, we just wanted to remind you about the attendance policy of our team. If you are going to miss practice for any reason we must have a note or email from a parent (BEFORE the day you are absent). If we have no idea where you are and we don't hear from a parent, the practice is unexcused. Once school starts the only excuse for missing practice is if you have missed school. It is a school rule that if you were not in school then you can not attend practice either. All appointments should be made to work around the team schedule. If you must miss practice for an appointment, please be sure to get a parent or doctors note. Please take a look at the monthly calendar and the practice schedule so you can make appropriate arrangements!
This policy has been put in place to encourage the success of the team and all the individuals involved. We love having so many runners on our team, but with that comes the importance of accountability. You are all important to us and we depend on you to be responsible for your running! Take your commitment to this team seriously, and you will definitely see some seriously fast times this fall!
If you have any questions and concerns regarding attendance please feel free to call or email anytime.
Reminders:
-Spinning @ 6:45am tomorrow (bring towel and water bottle, register online)
-Alternate workout tomorrow, gazebo @ 8:30am - bike & run
-Pictures tomorrow @ 2:30pm at BHS (please wear dress or skirt)

Stay Loose!

You have all worked so hard this summer and with the official season starting on Monday we wanted to make sure you understand the importance of preparing your body to run and also cooling your body down after a great workout.
Take responsibility for your own body and stretching. Follow our guidelines but also do what is best for you. You should focus on dynamic (moving) stretches of the hamstrings, quads, hips, and calves before running. And after a run focus on the same muscle groups by using static (holding still) stretches. Thank you Coach Sara!

Today was the last brick workout with Coach Sara and you all did an excellent job! It's really been amazing to see how you've all improved since the beginning of June. You should be very proud of the miles you've put in on the bike, and know that the cross training you've done will make you so much stronger and faster on race day! Thank you Coach Sara for making us all more knowledgeable about triathlons and what it means to be a multi-sport athlete. We really appreciate all the time you've spent with us!
Girls that are competing in the Huntington Sprint Triathlon on Sunday (7/25) please be sure to have your bike, helmet, water/gatorade, shoes, and goggles ready to go for the big race! Coach Sara will meet you by the Playhouse at 7:00AM to get you all ready before the swim, bike, and run! Good luck to all triathletes!
Everyone else...get ready to cheer for the girls and Coach Sara! Signs and noisemakers are encouraged!

Madison we will miss you so much, and wish you the very best at your new school and with your new team! Please keep us updated on your running and what life is like on the west coast. This season won't be the same without you!

Sweaty Saturday

Nice job this morning ladies! It was a hot one, but you stuck it out and finished almost 7 miles nice and strong! All that hard work was rewarded by a a refreshing dip in beautiful Lake Erie ; ) Make sure you drink lots of water and get some protein in for lunch...and enjoy your day off tomorrow!
We can't stress enough to all of you how important it is to get 6 days a week of running in this summer. You are working so hard during the week, make sure to go the extra mile with the team (if you are in town)on the weekend! And for all the vacationers: make sure you stay on track with your training program (schedule is attached to the right). The people who stay dedicated in the summer months experience the most success in the fall.

Bay Days!

You all did a great job today running the Bay Days course, now we are ready to really push it on Sunday (even with the heat!).
Remember: The Bay Days race is on SUNDAY (7/4) at 8:30am, and we are meeting at the canopy doors at 7:30am in order to warm-up, stretch, and be ready for the big race! Be sure to wear Bay red, white, and blue!
Tomorrow you have the option of cross-training at the Ride & Workout (please register online and bring a TOWEL and WATER) or biking around Bay. If you are going to carpool to spinning please meet at the high school at 6:45am. If you are not spinning, please meet the rest of the girls at the high school canopy doors at 8:30am. ***We will be meeting at the high school until Monday - in order to avoid the carnival ; )***
Saturday is a Captain's practice, and again you will be meeting at the high school canopy doors. Westerly run would be perfect for the 16 of you running in Bay Days (good idea Leilah!). Everyone else should go a little longer if possible.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday! It's going to be hot for Sunday's race, you must be hydrated to perform well. We are so proud of the work you have already put in, now make sure you give your body the fuel it needs to run fast!
